About

This map shows public transport frequency across metropolitan Melbourne at midday on a typical weekday. Routes are colour-coded by how often they run, irrespective of mode.

Rationale

Existing local area maps largely fail to distinguish frequent routes from infrequent ones. Inspired by the Seattle Transit Map and the Miami Metrobus Map, this map uses colour and line weight to represent frequency, stripping out much of the visual noise.

The background is intentionally simplified — this is a friendly overview of the network, not a navigation tool. Trip planning apps are better suited for end-to-end journey planning.

Data & methodology

Frequency is based on timetables current as of May 2026, assessed across a midday window of approximately 11:00–13:00 on a weekday. Flexiride zones operate as on-demand services and are shown as shaded areas rather than fixed routes.

Notes

Unofficial — not affiliated with PTV or the Victorian Government. Check transport.vic.gov.au for current timetables.
